Air washer

Air washers are 2-in-1 devices. They combine a humidifier and air purifier in one and thus ensure an ideal indoor climate for dry and polluted indoor air. During humidification, dirt is simultaneously washed out of the air and only clean, optimally humidified air is returned to the room. Find the right air washer now.

What an air washer can do for you

The world of air humidification and air purification

On our information page about humidifying the air, we explain what the ideal humidity level is and the causes and effects of excessively dry air indoors. On our information page about cleaning the air, we explain the causes and effects of polluted indoor air.

Buying and air washer: what do you need to consider?

You can measure the relative humidity in a room with a hygrometer. This must be placed on an elevated surface in the center of the room, not directly next to doors or windows. The sensor needs a few minutes to adjust to the temperature in new locations. The recommended value for relative humidity is between 40 % and 60 %.

A different appliance is required depending on the size of the room. You therefore need to know the size of the room in which you want to use the air washer. Length x width of the room (e.g. 5 x 6 meters is 30 m2) gives the room area. If the doors are permanently open, the area of the neighbouring room must be added. The room height is multiplied by the area (30 m2 x 2.5 meters = 75 m3) to determine the volume. And for minimum energy houses with controlled ventilation, the room size must be doubled.

As air washers work via a water system (filtered particles remain in the water), regular cleaning is a must. The easier the water base and disc pack are to handle, the easier and quicker cleaning is. With some appliances, such as George, individual parts can even be cleaned in the dishwasher. It is therefore worth looking at the handling before buying.

How an air washer works

Air washers work by means of discs that rotate in the water. The air is drawn in and passed over the rotating disc pack. Particles, pollen, fine dust, bacteria, viruses and animal hair are washed out of the air in the water tank. At the same time, the air absorbs moisture. The clean and humidified air is then released back into the room. In this way, the air washer acts as an air purifier and humidifier.

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, air washers can be very useful for allergy sufferers as they can filter allergens such as pollen, dust mites and animal dander from the air, which reduces the burden on allergy sufferers . And optimally humidified air can also alleviate allergy symptoms.

Yes, air washers are effective in reducing dust particles in the air. They wash out floating dust particles and thus improve the air quality in closed rooms.

Air washers can remove bad odours to a limited extent. An air purifier with an activated carbon filter is suitable for targeted and efficient odour removal. Activated carbon adsorbs odours and neutralises them.

An air purifier is designed to remove pollutants such as dust, pollen, allergens and other particles from the air. A humidifier, on the other hand, is designed to increase humidity, which is particularly useful in dry air. An air washer is a combination of humidifier and air purifier. Air washers are particularly useful in dry and dusty environments.
